On February 12, the University of Maryland announced President Wallace Loh's successor, Darryl J. Pines, PhD. The university held an ice cream social for the community to meet the new president at the Stamp Student Union on February 14, 2020.
The line to meet Dr. Pines lasted throughout the entire event.
The lines for ice cream converged with the receiving line creating a large mess of people in the center of the room.

Vanilla and chocolate ice cream was offered to students, faculty and employees at the event.
