Dr. Oscar Barbarin, African American Studies Department Chair at the University of Maryland, in his office in Taliaferro Hall. Inspired by his own experiences growing up in segregated New Orleans, Barbarin researches the emotional and academic development of boys and young men of color. He holds a PhD from Rutgers University and has held the position of chair of the African American Studies Department at UMD since 2015.
