The subject of my portraits is Ryan Bowie, a 29-year-old junior, majoring in journalism. He served in the military for a number of years, including two separate deployments in Syria, fighting in the civil war there. He wears a bracelet, seen on his right wrist, that honors the friends that he lost. He lives in D.C. but breathes Baltimore, with tattoos referencing the city, including an oriole, a raven and more. The Baltimore Banner could write a story about his experience in the military, how that brought him to journalism, and how his ties to the city have shaped him.
