Visitors at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., interacted with this "Pulse Index" piece, in which users fingerprints are projected on a screen and the light changes based on their heartbeats. Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's interactive exhibit "Pulse" is on display at the Hirshhorn through April 28, 2019.
In the "Pulse Room" piece, past visitors heartbeats are used to control the rhythm of hundreds of lightbulbs flashing as they hang from the ceiling. Hirshhorn visitors can add their heartbeat to the rotation by placing their hands on this sensor.
In the Hirshhorn's Sculpture Garden, "The Burghers of Calais" by Auguste Rodin bathes in the golden light of sunset. The Sculpture Garden is located between the main Hirshhorn Museum building and the National Mall.
The sun sets behind the Washington Monument on February 28, 2019, as people walk along the sides of the National Mall.
