Senate President Mike Miller led his chamber at the Maryland State House in Annapolis Thursday Feb. 7, 2019. With several bills on third reader, the senate voted to pass much of the legislation on the agenda.

Sen. Paul Pinsky debated in favor of a bill that would give local school jurisdictions authority over their academic calendar. The debate lasted nearly two hours Thursday Feb. 7, 2019, and vetted both educational and economic interests. 

Sen. Stephen Hershey argued Thursday Feb. 7, 2019 that a firm school starting date set after labor day would be more beneficial to the state as a whole. From the senate chamber in Annapolis, Hershey voiced his opposition to the bill that would allow local school jurisdictions to decide their calendar.
