I admire war correspondents and photojournalists, so I chose to build a camera kit around a modern day war photographer for this assignment. Some of my inspirations include Lee Miller and Lynsey Addario.
Photojournalist Jonathan Alpeyrie put together a Youtube video of his "field-tested essentials," which inspired the selection of the Canon camera, brand of backpack, Nikon film camera and ballistic vest.
Alpeyrie doesn't carry that many SD cards on him, but I chose to include 5 in my camera kit. I liked his idea of hiding SD cards with pictures on your body if you face detention, and putting blank SD cards in your camera. He argued that you can replace your camera, but you can't replace the photographs you took.
Alpeyrie's list included a film camera, which I love. I was sure to include a film camera and film in my backpack, though, as he said, you have a limited amount of photos you can take.
I also included clothing essentials I envision a woman would need in the field, including a possible head cover, which could be useful depending on the location I would be covering.
