The annual 'Out of Darkness' Walk for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

was held at City Park in Parkersburg, West Virginia, in September. Over 100 participants came to walk and raise awareness.

As clearly seen, nobody pictured was wearing a mask. This was shortly before our COVID-19 rates began to spike. (Yikes.)

Families and friends walked together.

Participants listened to speakers, who shared their personal struggles, before the walk began.

Each bead color represented a different type of loss.

Participants shared their stories of their own attempts or the loss of loved ones.

Participants were able to carry signs that shared encouraging words or inspired others to talk about their feelings.

A volunteer hands out beads to a young man who lost his father to suicide.

In an area that has been hit hard economically and by the drug epidemic, these types of walks and signs of solidarity are essential.
